Football, backpacks, school supply shopping frenzies; they all indicate fall is just around the corner. I hope you have enjoyed a memorable summer with friends, family, vacations, and relaxation. My kids are ready for school--they are social creatures and these last two weeks have a bit too much "down-time" for their entertainment. It's time to activate the brain cells and for me to activate my own routine for work, play, and self preservation!
Fall Mat Classes at Home Training begin Tuesday, September 3rd at 9:00a.m. and Wednesday September 4th at 9:00a.m. The session runs 12 weeks and cost is $100.00. There will be a break week near the end of October as well as a break week during Thanksgiving. Please email or facebook message me if you wish to be on the list for this upcoming fall session. Our plan, following the principles established by Joseph Pilates, is of course to strengthen the core, create a balance of strength with flexibility, and improve concentration and awareness with our movement, breath and posture. The change of seasons always invigorates me to re-commit to healthy habits and a daily plan for incorporating wellness activities into my life. I hope you feel this same motivation.
There are always new and exciting classes at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness. I will continue to teach the Thursday 9:30a.m. Pilates class. Those of you who enjoy Tennis Aerobics are welcome to stay for this 10:30 invigorating workout. In addition you may still contact me to create a TRX on Demand class. There is a new computer system in the works that will allow members to register for classes from home. This will make the formation of TRX classes even easier. I plan to continue to offer a Friday 9:30am intermediate class and Friday 10:30a.m. beginner class (if there is "demand!") This workout is ideal for men and women seeking muscle strength and cardio benefit and builds long, lean muscle with a focus on eccentric work. TRX develops balance, strength and flexibility. I am always impressed by the social connections and camaraderie discovered through healthy living and exercise. Come join the party!
Private Pilates instruction is always an option. Some of my clients routinely practice 2-3 X's a week; others attend 1x a per week; while some call at their convenience and state they simply feel the need for a reformer training session. Anybody is welcome to get a friend and do equipment training together and split the cost. Price is $40/session or $180 for 5 sessions. This private training is particularly helpful if you are feeling chronic stress, imbalance, and sometimes even pain. The Pilates system, similar to yoga, has a way of putting your body at ease and heightening your awareness to healthy movement. In addition it is an excellent method to develop strength without straining. It is always an honor and pleasure to share the experience with both new and frequent clients. Thank you for your patronage!
Never say never! My women's tennis team thought our season was over when we took second place at the state tourney. The first place team however had to default their position due to the absence of some of their key players ( a few, rumor has it, had to return to the pro circuit!) So, with a quick hustle from our captain we booked a hotel, arranged babysitters, asked for time off from work and carpooled south to Indianapolis with 11 women to the USTA Midwest training facility. Our team played well and we had the realization that we can hang tight with nearly any 3.5 team in the Midwest. There were some matches that left me crying tears of joy and there were some matches that left me feeling momentary despair.
We did however gain perspective as the Marines 82nd Airborne Division was hosting a reunion in our Indianapolis East Marriott hotel. Nothing makes us suspend our whining and pity party at losing a close match faster than observing a man walk across the room wearing multiple prosthetic devices. In addition, the director of Operation Christmas Stocking, a veteran himself was present to raise awareness and support for this annual gift-giving program for children with parents serving in the military. I will share with you the letter I sent to Henry Robinson, the hotel's ambassador, as well as their general manager Brent Myrick. I think it summarizes the weekend succinctly.

Dear Henry,
On behalf of the entire Wisconsin Pleasant Valley Tennis team we would like to thank you for the heart-felt prayer this morning. Thankfully "Victory in Jesus' name" is always possible and we had some great victories today! Although we did not advance to Nationals (you will be happy to hear your Indiana team is attending) we believe our weekend brought perspective to our lives. Sharing the hotel with guests from the 82nd Airborne Division reminded us that our recreational and leisure pursuits are luxuries and privileges afforded to us at great cost from men and women throughout our country's history. Our petty complaints and "stress" at losing a point or match were put in perspective when we saw the loss that many men in your hotel this weekend had suffered in war. We were humbled to be in the presence of true warriors and heroes.
Also, your entire staff was the most courteous, helpful, gracious group of men and women. David, who served us in the restaurant Saturday evening and Charisse, who served us on the patio earlier in the day exceeded expectations to be accommodating, friendly, and helpful. Your staff consists of men and women who are not only professional but also relational. They take interest and concern in the well-being and comfort of their guests. We cannot thank you enough for such a wonderful stay. Again, your prayer this morning was the icing on the cake of a memorable, emotional, and victorious weekend. Thank you for your warmth, kindness and hospitality.
Thank you for reading and for making Home Training a part of your life!
