Booty Barre! Sounds just like what the doctor ordered for our derriere's! I hear the goal a lot from women to tone, strengthen, lift and diminish cellulite in the posterior region. One recent creative addition to group exercise is Barre' classes. Actually it is not new as nearly 8 years ago I took a course entitled Balletone where all the moves were based upon a dancers' regimen. We have evolved however, and is often the case with fitness, an energetic well-known instructor like Tracy Mallet or CRUNCH Pilates instructor Ellen Barrett can put a practice on the world map. Booty Barre' incorporates a variety of sequences from Pilates, Yoga and Ballet often using a ballet bar or chair if the studio does not have the barre' installed. The emphasis is entirely on the core and lower body and it is intense as 90% of the class is performed in standing. An example of a true Booty Barre' class can be found at Pilatesanytime.com with instructor Tracy Mallet. The Movement Center of Pewaukee is currently offering Barre' instructor training as well as daily classes.
The purpose of this blog however is not to tell you to do Barre' classes but instead to encourage you to select activities you enjoy and that offer variety. A little spark can go a long ways to creating a life-long commitment to fitness. Terri Bodden of Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness shared this link from Active.com and it reminded me that we all have lazy, unmotivated, uninspired moments in our life--even fitness instructors! The article encouraged me and I hope it does the same for you. Explore your fitness options as one size does not fit all.
The next few weeks I will try to incorporate a few elements of Barre' into our Pilates and strength training regimens. We do have to focus more intently on some regions of the body and when we are talking glutes we are talking big muscles with a capacity to lose a lot of strength if not worked diligently--but don't worry--this work can be fun!
Take a look at Pilates Anytime Booty Barre' class as well as the link below for the Active.com article--it may be the spice you need in your life! Cheers!
