Thank you for your faithful attendance in wind, rain and snow over the past few months! I read recently a definition of health that I found fitting for our Pilates mat classes: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." It is my goal that you receive more than exercise at Home Training; that you find a sense of well being through Pilates that results overall into better health. You all have created the social nature, the laughter, the kindness and acceptance that makes the class experience nurturing and valuable at levels beyond the physical. Thank you for being you!
Registration for summer session has been excellent. In order to confirm your mat space, pre-payment of $36/5 weeks is recommended. If the demand continues to increase it is possible to add an additional mat class. Thank you for your flexibility with class times. This first session will begin Tuesday June 14th and Wednesday June 15th at 8:15a.m. It may seem a little early but hopefully 8:15a.m. Pilates will give us the time and energy to participate in the other fun activities available on warm summer days!
Keep in mind that you may join me Tuesday mornings around 7:15a.m. for a cardio run/jog/walk/crawl before our Pilates class. You do not have to participate in Pilates to move with us. This will be informal...just show up at Home Training and we will start walking. If the weather is bad, please do not come!
My daughter recently took a tennis lesson and when she returned she said, "He gave me a different way to think about my serve." Thinking about things differently or changing the way we think about work, fitness, or relationships is valuable to our health whether we are students or instructors. I am excited to be attending a Pilates Mat Workshop in early June taught by a protege' of Kathy Grant from Colorado. Kathy Grant was a first generation Master Teacher of Joseph Pilates. Ms. Grant passed away recently yet her teaching style is well-documented and shared by her proteges. Cara Reeser of Pilates Align will be presenting this workshop of Ms. Grant's renown techniques rich with descriptive imagery and movement patterns. This workshop will enable me to "think a little differently" about our Pilates repertoire as well as how the body is designed to function both on and off the Pilates mat. I can't wait to share the techniques with the Summer Session clients.
I confess, Oprah is a personal hero. I have enjoyed this season and frequently find inspiration in her show. In closing of this blog and in honor of her final show today, it seems fitting to share an Oprah health quote: "Getting my lifelong weight struggle under control has come from a process of treating myself as well as I treat others in every way." I hope you treat yourself; your physical, social, and mental well-being, as well as you have treated me here at Home Training. You deserve to be nurtured and valued and nobody is better at treating yourself well than You! Take the time to care for your health, your complete health.
