What do Chix 4 a Cause, shoes and accessories, and deer hunters have in common? Everything...if you are Paula Carlton. Paula is a woman on a mission to unite hunters for a purpose beyond venison and sausage! Paula has hosted or co-hosted the DNR Shoe & Accessory Hunt for 7 years and in the process raised thousands of dollars to aid Chix 4 A Cause, a local, non-profit organization that sends gifts of love to people fighting cancer. Many women (and perhaps men too), now connect the hunting season to Paula's seasonal fundraising party.
About 7 years ago Paula and a few friends collaborated on both a vision and a passion. When spouses departed "up north" to hunt, the women headed south to their own hunting grounds; Chicago, Bayshore Mall, quaint boutiques in search of prized game; perhaps the 12 point buck in the shoe department or the massive elk hiding in the jewelry section. This hunt however extended beyond decorating their wardrobe. Partnering with Chix 4 a Cause, they created an end of season gathering to share creative stories about their treacherous hunt as well as display their "kill" for the party. Women would brag, boast, and show-off their "prize game" whether it was an unexpected bargain you surprised in Goodwill, a powerful stiletto snagged in Vegas, or perhaps an endangered species like a treasured knitted scarf from a grandparent. Regardless of the game, all have a story.
Numerous businesses, large and small, as well as individuals donate gift
baskets to the DNR End of Season party. Guests purchase raffle tickets and are also privy to
delicious food as well as a variety of beer and wine. Depending on how big your "tag" (contribution) you may be eligible for free drinks as well as free additional raffle tickets.

This years party is being held at Moosenuckles in Campbellsport Wednesday, December 4th. ("I do love the idea of pulling together kind, inspiring, uplifting, strong women in one room to share in the glory of giving. Moosenuckles in Campbellsport has a rustic feel to it. It is simple yet elegant. It's like Central Perk but with wine and hearty brew." Paula) After two years of non-stop studying for her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree, she is once again hunting full-force and preparing for this final gathering. Please "Like" the DNR Shoe & Accessory Hunt for more information as well as to share in the mission of Chix 4 a Cause. As a Nurse Practioner for Aurora, Paula constantly serves the community with care, education, and activism. You may even remember her as the winner of Washington County's Dancing with the Stars! You can get more information about this year's hunt at Paula's blog as well as the DNR Shoe & Accessory Hunt facebook page. Space is limited but it's not too late to reserve a spot for you and your friends. Even if you can't attend the party you can certainly still contribute to Chix 4 A Cause at the link listed below.
