Bring your walking shoes this week as the forecast is for brilliant colors and blue skies. (These pictures were taken a few weeks ago and undoubtedly the colors will be even better now.) "On Saturday, September 7, 2019 the Joan M. Pick Nature Preserve was officially opened to the public during the Pick-Nic at Pick celebration.
The Joan M. Pick Nature Preserve stands on a moraine formed in the last Ice Age. Joan M. Pick’s father Andrew purchased the property in 1937, and “Jo” ultimately inherited the land.
Jo grew to be a woman with strong connections to the land, to art, to learning, and to the community. She lived on the farm for more than 60 years. Her philanthropic efforts and sense of humor became the qualities she was best known for when she passed away a month before her 97th birthday in 2013."

Her wish was to give CLCF (Cedar Lakes Conservation Foundation) the opportunity to create a refuge on this land for all living things, where people could come and enjoy the beauty of nature as she had.

OUR HISTORY: Founded in 1974, the Cedar Lakes Conservation Foundation (CLCF) is one of the oldest land trusts in Wisconsin. Originally organized and led by Geoff Maclay, CLCF recognized the need to protect a vanishing landscape that development would have changed irreparably.
Our work focuses on the ecosystem health of Wisconsin’s Cedar Lakes region, made up of Gilbert, Big Cedar, Little Cedar, Lucas, Silver and Quaas Lakes. Much of this area composes the headwaters of Cedar Creek, which flows southeast joining the Milwaukee River in Cedarburg and which eventually joins Lake Michigan.
Since our founding, CLCF has protected over 60 properties totaling more than 2,400 acres. We’ve employed such measures as fee simple purchase, conservation easements and deed restrictions to protect this land in perpetuity.
CLCF was also instrumental in the forming of Gathering Waters, Wisconsin’s alliance for land trusts. Both the state and federal DNR have recognized the significant positive impact that CLCF has had on water quality. www.conservecedarlakes.org/what-we-do/about-us/
