
This spring day makes me want to jump for joy...but to decrease compressive forces to my spine, I pulled out my Pilates reformer jump-board! The jump- board is a fun way to heighten cardio response in Pilates while minimizing impact. Much like a trampoline or rebounder the sky is the limit when it comes to combinations and movement patterns. Whether jumping parallel, Pilates "V" position, second position, alternating jumps, adding quick heel beats or straight leg kicks; the heart rate is elevated, the legs feel fatigue, and the core says "thank-you!" In addition to burning extra calories, use of the jump-board awakens your reflex and response time as well as your proprioceptive system helping you to sense where you body is in space thus enhancing coordination.

This also leads me to acknowledge it is time to move beyond the winter session and into our spring programming. Tuesday Mat Class will begin April 22nd through May 27th. This seems late but due to two weather-related cancellations our winter session is melting into spring. (6weeks...$50...9:00a.m. ) Wednesday Mat Class will begin April 9th and last until May 28th (8weeks...$65...9:00am.) Please let me know as soon as possible if you plan to participate in Tuesday or Wednesday Spring Session Mat Class at Home Training.

TRX on Demand Classes continue to develop and form organically. I love it! Rather than offering a class at a set-time there is a degree of freedom in simply contacting me and meeting at Pleasant Valley for a group session between 1-6 persons at your preferred time. This past Sunday was a great example. A friend recently bought a TRX system for her home use but wanted her teen boys and husband to participate in a structured class to learn a few of the basics. Another friend wanted her husband to try TRX so we arranged for 3 couples to participate--a lively, entertaining and sometimes humorous workout/date! General feedback from TRX participants include improved strength, better muscle definition, more core connections, and new friends.

Pleasant Valley Pilates Mat Class continues Thursdays at 9:30a.m. All are welcome to attend this class. The class is free for members and $8 for community participants. The class is designed for all levels of Pilates experience and often incorporates balls, bands, fitness circles and foam rollers.
