Our winter sabbatical to Marco Island is rapidly coming to a close. Thank you for participating in classes online. Technology has allowed both of us to remain productive while still enjoying the sunshine and recreational pursuits so popular on the gulf coast. We have been blessed with incredible friendships the past couple of years. Our circle has extended from Canada to Indiana, New York and New Jersey, and we even befriended a few from Illinois (but we still argue their toll-roads are too expensive). For March Madness, we now cheer for Purdue and Illinois in addition to Wisconsin and Auburn! Last night there was a social event with delicious Italian entrees like lasagna and eggplant parmesan plus sweet desserts like cannoli. Soon after the group moved poolside to appreciate the band, dancing and socializing. Easily the age ranged from 50 to 100 years old! A beautiful blend of people from all walks of life finding common interests in spite of our regional differences. In fact, most of our friends we met by a common interest in pickleball. We are frequently schooled in the sport by those decades older and it never fails we look at them and identify their prowess as goals!
'There are constant interactions, not just at this particular condominium, but across the island of unparalleled enthusiasm for movement, exercise and activity from people of all ages. It's inspiring for me now in middle aged to see individuals and couples excited about their bike rides, beach walks, pickleball and tennis, water aerobics and golf. It reminds me of Joseph Pilates' quote, "We retire too early and we die too young. Our prime of life should be in the 70's and old age should not come until we are almost 100." You certainly find all ages thriving with a zest for life that seems akin to the fountain of youth. And although some here are "retired," they too demonstrate meaningful investment in church, volunteer organizations, and committee and board service. Even though many consider Florida to be a seasonal residence they still make it a point to develop close relationships. It's a different perspective for me as my proclivity with getting away is to recharge alone but the reality is sometimes other people recharge your battery better than you could ever do in isolation. I am learning to feed off of the uplifting energy and social connections of these individuals, a positive change for me.
Speaking of change, the Spring Series is just around the corner. Mat classes will begin the week of April 7th-June 9th. This is a 10-week session @ $100. Please pro-rate according to your schedule. *Classes will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:15 pm and Tuesdays at 8:30a.m.
There is a minimum of 5 participants required to run a class. Classes will include the classical mat series as well as contemporary options utilizing foam rollers, core balls and the wall. Stay tuned for upcoming Zoom on-line classes which will be offered separately from the in-person series.
If you wish to create a private class with friends at a time/date convenient for you, please let me know. "Pilates Parties" are an ideal way to connect socially and also advance your Pilates practice.

Personal Training on the Pilates apparatus will also resume the week of April 7th. The Pilates equipment adds the extra challenge of resistance training so important for muscle strengthening. In addition, it has a unique way of providing insight and feedback to our movement strategies and habits. I hope you will join me 1:1 this spring.
