Saturday was a beautiful, bold, courageous day where women and men took deliberate steps toward health and wellness. As Glennon Doyle often shares on her Momastery blog, sometimes the bravest thing we can do is simply show up; say yes, be present. Kudos to Erin Trainor for seeing her gym dream become a reality with its Grand Opening near Settler's Park on Main Street in West Bend. The energy was bursting into the street where the seasonal Farmer's Market was in full swing. The MPT space is so appealing; bright fresh paint; clean, reconditioned hardwood floors and artistic, unique art-work designed to motivate and inspire. Most importantly is the air of warmth and acceptance from staff, leaders, friends, and participants. All levels of fitness engaged in boot camps, dance fitness, high intensity intervals, Zumba and Pilates. I was nervous! So many new faces, so many new to the Pilates philosophy. It was a challenge for me to deliver the type of class I desired, but thankfully, if I wasn't able to personally connect with everybody, Wednesday evenings at 6:30p.m. presents a consistent opportunity at Erin's My Personal Trainor gym/studio.
The Principles of Pilates include Breath, Center, Concentration, Control, Precision, and Fluidity. As we practice we will incorporate these ideas into all of mat-work. Good news! Perfection is NOT a Pilates principle. We are exploring movement, almost playfully introducing positions to challenge and stretch us. The goal is never perfection, we are living breathing organisms constantly adapting, creating, and growing. Our body does not register the difference between dance versus bootcamp versus walking...we might consider one more fun than another or judge ourselves more skilled, but ultimately the body just appreciates the fact we are moving. MOVEMENT is what we need....conscientious, intentional movement is of value to mind and body. Joseph Pilates said, "Patience and persistence are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavor." I hope you will join me Wednesday evenings at 6:30p.m., to build, strengthen, lengthen, and stretch our bodies and our minds. ($10 drop in rate. )
