Relationships. They positively and negatively influence our lives. I have been particularly mindful of relationships this fall season as in our home we tend to measure the passage of time according to win/loss records, football games, and tailgate parties. Ron and Trey have an awesome father-son relationship as they are "two peas in a pod" comparing fantasy football teams, statistics, and polls. This year they instituted the tradition of attending one away game together and enjoyed a weekend in Purdue. This road trip was punctuated by meeting the Badger team at the Best Western and having the good fortune to strike up the Purdue band.
In addition I have been excited to watch the progress of my own alma mater, Auburn, climb the polls to the #2 national ranking. While Ron celebrates with a variety of friends, father/son duos, and family in Madison; my gameday tradition this season has been primarily alone but with a contingency of fellow fanatics via Facebook. Perhaps not an ideal setting but I am grateful to maintain connections across the miles with friends who share the same passion for Auburn football. In addition, since I tend to be superstitious, I must continue to watch the games alone so as to not jinx the biggest game of the season...The Iron Bowl. The Iron Bowl is one of the largest, hard-fought rivalries in college football and this year occurs the day after Thanksgiving as the Tigers take on the Crimson Tide, AKA: Bama. Currently at 11-0 and boasting a Heisman Trophy candidate every Auburn student and alum is celebrating. Naturally the Cam Newton controversy has added a degree of hype and concern; however until we hear otherwise, we "Stand By Our Cam!"
As the Fall season progresses in a flurry of fight songs, game day traditions and La Bamba burritos, I am also counting down the days of my last session teaching Pilates at the Kettle Moraine YMCA. After teaching classes there for nearly 9 years this is an exciting transition for me as Home Training continues to build in classes and clientele. I sincerely appreciate the inquiries from current participants who desire to pursue their Pilates mat practice with me and look forward to hosting "Pilates Mat Parties" in my home studio. I am particularly pleased by the depths of friendships that have blossomed in class through consistent Pilates practice. Obviously the goal of Pilates is core strength and flexibility, however sometimes the secondary effects are of even greater benefit than the initial objective; in this case relationships, friendships, concern and caring for one another. Each person attending a group Pilates class at the YMCA enhances the experience and energy within the class. We have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and shared genuine concern of health struggles and children's needs. Within Pilates we have created a community of shared interests and friendships. I am thankful to you all for being an important part of the development of this Pilates community.
Social relationships are a valuable component to life. When relationships develop within the context of a particular hobby or passion like Pilates, football, tennis, or art they become an exceptional bonus to the original interest. I am delighted that dear friendships have been fostered through the common passion of Pilates.
This winter I envision mat classes at Home Training, LLC between 2-6 participants, a fire in the fireplace, and tea or cocoa available before and after class. I hope you all can relax and feel at home as we pursue common goals of good health, strength and vitality throughout our daily activities. As we approach Thanksgiving, my heart is thankful for the special relationships that develop through shared passions and values.
