As the school year comes to a close so ends my own structured routine. Talking with close friends and clients it seems we all agree on one common thread....no matter the season, exercise is a consistent strategy to help maintain physical and emotional well-being. I train full-time moms, full-time grandmothers, full time business women, full-time students...across the board women express feeling better after Pilates and exercise. I tend to put Pilates into a category all its own because of its profound emphasis on the mind building the body. In addition, 'exercise phobics' (and I train those as well!) often prefer the idea of "on my way to do Pilates," versus "I have to exercise." Pilates is less about exercise and more about living well.
So out of necessity my structured routine is replaced by a more flexible one to get the kids to summer school, sporting events, and friends' homes. If you train at Home Training this summer, please just gently shove the cats out of the way, ignore the dust, and disregard any shrieking. We are training for real-life. Just like Tiger Woods' dad would shout to distract and disrupt him as he was about to tee off so does my house, my children, my neighbors challenge you to find focus! Inner calmness even among chaos is truly available with practice.
I thank you all for your faithful Pilates practice, whether in the group classes or personal training. I am always available to schedule trainings on a week by week basis--often even day by day--as that is how I live as well. If you need a specific time each week I will always do my best to accomodate your schedule.
Mat classes will be offered June 12-July 24th, a 6 week session with no classes the week of July 4th. Class will begin at 8:30 and end at 9:20a.m. on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You may sign up for the session for $45 or, if space permits, drop in for $10.
Please consider joining me at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Thursdays at 9am beginning June 7th for Pilates. It is a beautiful studio, spacious, and welcoming. Sometimes taking your workout to a new venue improves focus and intensity. At 10a.m. you may participate in tennis aerobics, an energetic tennis workout set to music with hundreds of balls rapidly fired at you by professional coaches. It is a perfect setting for new or experienced players to practice their stroke, burn some calories, and get their hearts-pumping.
I appreciated this thought from Deepak Chopra:
I went to a monastery in Thailand. We took our baths in the stream, we begged for our food in the streets, I shaved my head and walked barefoot. My head monk asked how it was walking. I said it hurt without shoes. And he said, "It hurts on the foot that's down, but the one that's up feels really good—so focus on that one."
And I realized that all pain and pleasure is where you put your attention.
