88-year-old superstar Betty White says, "I learned this at my mother's knee: When something is great, taste it and enjoy it while it's there. Don't ever look back and say, 'I didn't realize it at the time, but that was wonderful.'"
A repeated theme to enjoying life is that of being present in the moment...letting go of the past and not being anxious about the future.
As I was returning from a rather slow, steamy 10 mile run this morning I passed a familiar figure near my street. A beautiful woman slowly pushing her rolling walker. I commented to her how I admired the faithfulness to her walking. She offered a gorgeous smile and said she tries to walk the equivalent of a square block four four times a day. She gleefully volunteered that she would be 93 years old this year. "Wow, I exclaimed, exercise really does work." She enthusiastically nodded and said she has a sign in her house, "Move It or Lose It." She has certainly made the choice to move it!
My parents celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this week. If marriage was an Olympic sport they would definitely bring home the gold medal. Perseverance, forgiveness, dedication and love defines their relationship. My dad has a big birthday this week as well...75! As a retired pilot and full-time avocado farmer his physical activity keeps him young and strong. Time moves quickly...take note of those around you who are thriving in their life... follow their lead. Enjoy the moments.
