School begins Tuesday, September 2nd which coordinates perfectly with our Fall Mat Class session at Home Training. Classes will be offered Tuesday at 9:00a.m., Wednesday at 9:00a.m., and Thursday at 8:00 a.m. This will be a 10 week session for $85.00. We will continue to use the Pilates Method and mat work series to strengthen, stretch, and improve the mind/body connections. A variety of props including foam rollers, ther-bands, and Spri balls will be used to help us achieve our goals. If you are interested in participating please email me at [email protected]. The max for each class is 6 participants and the minimum to hold a class is 3 participants. There are a few spaces still available. Your payment must be received by August 22nd to reserve your space.
To me, the true essence of Pilates is found in the equipment training. The spring resistance of the reformer, chair, and tower create core work and connections that otherwise are difficult to generate. In addition, the resistance assists people in certain motions where ordinarily they may be weak or compensate to complete a movement pattern. Currently I have an array of clients from teens to moms to men participating in 1:1 training on the equipment. Everybody has different goals but across the board the movement sequences result in less pain, improved range of motion, alignment and posture awareness as well as the relationship to how our daily movement and activities are contributing to asymmetry, pain or imbalance. As my first instructor told me many moons ago it is helpful to commit to 3 classes before deciding whether or not the equipment is of value to your lifestyle. You are always welcome to do a duet and split the cost with a friend The workout is so different from the typical gym experience that you need to allow yourself a "learning curve," before making judgments. The differences in Pilates is what makes it sustainable across the lifespan; therapeutic and corrective rather than draining or destructive.
I continue to teach classes at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness this fall. Pilates Mat Class will be Thursdays at 9:30a.m. after Labor Day. TRX classes are also available, the primary class will be Friday at 9:30a.m. however groups continue to contact me and create their own "On-Demand," style class when time and space permits. This is an option to consider for your youth/teen and sports training. (From a personal standpoint I do think my daughter is predisposed toward injury because of a lack of sports specific training. She considers playing basketball the be "exercise enough," but I think we all know strength and core training plus a healthy dose of yoga on the side, builds a better, safer athlete. )
