The Maine Event....Happy Golden Anniversary!

Boothbay Harbor, Maine was our recent vacation spot to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary.  It has been years since the 3 siblings plus spouses plus children plus parents have all been in the same location. Jobs, school, sports and of course the fact we all live in different states make reunions challenging to orchestrate. Fortunately this momentous occasion necessitated that all baseball tournaments, swim meets, basketball and soccer games and work responsibilities be put on hold for 1 week to honor this fruitful marriage!

My dad's first job was a Delta Airlines pilot, however, as a secondary income he and my mom planted an avocado grove in Homestead, Florida. This grove continues to flourish nearly 50 years later and keeps my parents active and healthy....(probably more active than they sometimes desire.)

My sister Shannon designed these shirts with input from us, filling the shirts with memorable people, places and things including the names of our pets, favorite recipes, vacations, and of course the grandkids. Unfortunately at the last minute we realized an error...our wonderful spouses Ron, Beau and Amy were left off the shirt! Our clever designer worked her magic and if you look closely you might just see their names in the finest of print!

We cannot quite pinpoint how we chose Maine or Boothbay Harbor, or the Linekin Inn for that matter, as our gathering spot, however it seemed perfectly prepared for us! Whether fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, or hiking our need for activity was easily satisfied. Likewise our need to do absolutely nothing but marvel at the landscape was equally appeased.

Colton joined us, the newest Braswell at 7 weeks old, for this exciting trip. It was a week of firsts....his first plane ride, meeting his grandparents, bonding with his cousins, and here, his first picnic!

Lobsters are abundant off the coast of Maine. While I prefer the lobster rolls, fresh bread filled with buttery, flaky meat, sometimes you have to do the work yourself. One might find boiled peanuts on a road-side shanty in the south, a creamery/cheese factory in the midwest, but on the coast of Maine, lobster shanties abound.

We desired a vacation free from the stress of feeding 13 people. When would we eat, where would we eat, what would we eat and who would pay? The Linekin Inn was an all-inclusive resort, (albeit a bit rustic) that solved our dilemmas and offered a delicious array of meals prepared by an amazing chef. No awkward haggling with the tab and always something to please every family member.

Boothbay Harbor hosts Windjammer Days, a celebration of pirates and Schooner vessels. This event also heralds the beginning of tourist season. Another first for Colton, pirates!

Lobster traps are easily converted to outdoor furniture. The surprise in this picture, no taffy or ice-cream cones, our usual afternoon snack.
This was the trip of a lifetime for our family,  being together in a low-stress environment, a 6 bedroom/6 bath lodge with plenty of space and privacy plus million-dollar views; I wish we did this every year!  I am sharing the link that our family collaborated and wrote on Trip Advisor for complete transparency. Maine is a beautiful state, Boothbay Harbor is a warm, active, lobstering/sailing community, and Linekin Inn has a history of hospitality since 1909! There were a few surprises with the accommodations that initially had us second-guessing our choice however we adapted readily and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
